Welded wire mesh is often considered stronger and more rigid than woven wire mesh, but the most accurate answer depends on what “stronger” means for your application. Wire material, diameter, opening size, manufacturing method, and installation all affect the final performance. In some projects, rigidity is the priority; in others, flexibility is more important.
Welded wire mesh is made by arranging horizontal and vertical wires at right angles and resistance-welding every intersection. These fixed joints prevent the wires from moving independently, helping the mesh maintain its opening size and overall shape under pressure.
This rigid construction makes welded mesh a practical option for fencing panels, machine guards, storage cages, partitions, animal enclosures, and concrete reinforcement. It is also easier to cut into panels because the surrounding intersections generally remain in position.
For applications that require a flat surface, consistent square or rectangular openings, and good resistance to deformation, welded wire mesh will often perform better than a comparable woven mesh.
